Discover Why Live Training Is Essential for Your Creative Career

Does this sound like you?

  • Staring at your phone or camera with no idea how to frame your self-tape.

  • Confusing technical requirements and submission formats from casting.

  • No professional feedback, leaving your auditions looking unpolished.

  • Self-tapes with poor lighting and audio that get deleted immediately.

  • Uncertainty about reader choices, eye lines, and slate protocols.

  • Follow our proven self-tape setup and shooting checklist.

  • Use industry-standard framing, lighting, and audio techniques.

  • Receive detailed feedback from your instructor and peers every week.

  • Create casting-quality auditions with basic equipment you already own.

  • Master slates, reader direction, and multiple takes like a pro.

What You Will Get in Our Cohort

Technical Foundations

Set up your self-tape space like a pro—even in a tiny apartment. Master lighting, sound, framing, and how to slate properly. Record your first scene and get immediate technical feedback.

Breaking Down the Script

Stop “reading lines” and start making choices. Learn how to analyze scripts like a professional—identifying beats, objectives, and subtext that most actors miss.

Emotional Life & Authentic Connection

Create genuine emotional connection without forcing it. Develop the spontaneity and presence that makes casting directors say “this person gets it.”

The Scene Partner & Off-Camera Acting

Transform how you work with a reader (even if it’s your roommate). Learn proper eye-line placement and how to react believably when you’re not delivering dialogue.

The Business Side

Learn what happens after you hit record. Master basic editing, file naming conventions, compression, and how to follow casting director instructions to the letter.

Final Reel & Feedback

Apply everything you’ve learned. Present your polished, professional self-tape reel to the cohort and receive constructive feedback from Xavier and your peers.

THIS IS A FOUNDING COHORT—

HERE’S WHAT THAT MEANS

This is a Paragraph Font

This is the first time Xavier is offering his curriculum in an intimate virtual cohort format. You’re not guinea pigs—you’re getting the exact techniques he teaches professional actors, adapted for the virtual self-tape format that’s become industry standard. As a founding member you'll have:

✅ Smaller cohort size (capped at 12 actors—more personalized attention)

✅ Founding member pricing: $600 (future cohorts will be $897)

✅ Lifetime access to the Self Tape community for networking and feedback

✅ Access to Xavier for questions between sessions (including during holiday break)

Translation: You’re getting more for less because you’re helping us prove what we already know—that this curriculum works.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Meet Xavier Mikal

Xavier Mikal: Working Actor, Director & MFA. Professor X doesn't just teach acting—he books roles, directs productions, and trains actors. His Credits: Lead role in THE PACT, a 12-episode limited series (Telly Award winner, streaming on YouTube). Featured in SHIRLEY starring Regina King (Netflix). Multiple film credits streaming on Amazon Prime and Tubi. Stage credits include August Wilson's KING HEDLEY II and Martin Luther King Jr. in Katori Hall's THE MOUNTAINTOP (performed at the International Black Theatre Festival).

His Teaching: Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from University of Louisville (where he also taught as a professor for 2 years). Currently teaches Acting for Camera at Trilith Studios—one of the largest production facilities in North America where Marvel films, Black Panther, and major Netflix productions are shot. 8 years teaching experience across all age groups at Alliance Theatre, University of Louisville, and Trilith Studios. Why this matters: Xavier knows what casting directors want because he's auditioning for the same roles you are. He knows what works on camera because he's directing actors on professional sets. And he knows how to teach because he's spent 8 years helping actors at every level master their craft. You're not learning theory from someone who left the industry to teach. You're learning current, working techniques from someone actively booking roles and training professional actors.

STILL GOT QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need acting experience?

Some experience is helpful but not required. You should be comfortable performing a scene on camera. This course focuses on the technical and professional aspects of self-taping, not foundational acting technique.

I’ve never done a self-tape before. Is this too advanced for me?

No. As you can see from Xavier's welcoming approach in the intro video, this program is designed to be accessible for actors at all levels. Xavier breaks everything down into clear, manageable steps and creates a supportive environment where questions are encouraged.

What if I don’t have professional equipment?

You don’t need it. A smartphone, a $30 tripod, and a ring light (or natural window light) are enough. Xavier will show you how to make basic equipment look professional.

How is this different from YouTube tutorials?

YouTube gives you information. This gives you a finished product. You’ll receive personalized feedback on YOUR work, accountability to actually complete it, and real-time answers to your specific questions. Plus, you’re learning from someone actively working in the industry, not someone who quit acting to make tutorials.

What if I can’t attend a live session?

All sessions are recorded and available within 24 hours. However, live attendance is strongly encouraged for real-time feedback. If you miss more than 2 sessions, we may not be able to guarantee a finished reel by January 24.
